The idea for Hearts In Hand Homeless Outreach was conceived by several people many years ago before they ever met. Myself (Thomas Griffin) was taught as a child to be a giving and caring person. As a child I always enjoyed helping and trying to make people smile. It is still my belief to this day that if you can put a smile on someone's face that you make that persons day just a little brighter. As a teen I was a volunteer for the Muscular Distrophy Association telethon and help raise money. I volunteered for the Muscular Distrophy Foundation assisting young adults at camp. In my latter years I would go to Garfield Park and offer to feed the local homeless and others, but I had them work for it.While I was purchasing food at kroger my friends were given instructions to gather sticks to burn for cooking,by the time I got back to the park there was plenty of wood to cook with. Through Facebook I had the pleasure to meet a man named James Voss and Andrea Michelle. James was online requesting assistance helping our friends experiencing homelessness relocate from under the bridges due to a eviction notice by the state. Many people offered to help them and I was the only one to show. From there the rest is history, James showed me around and educated me on just how devastating our homeless situation is. Since that day I have been helping as often as I can.
